About

Hi! I’m Jennifer Armhold, a Hawaiʻi based artist, illustrator, and designer who welcomes a wide range of creative collaborations and typically works on a contract basis. I have a strong background in visual arts which enables me to create things that are beautiful, while my education in UX empowers me to make them equally functional and effective. Good design should look good and make sense.

My Illustration work is playful, colorful, and lighthearted, making it well suited for stationery, puzzles, children’s products, and publishing. I maintain a growing library of artwork available for licensing, and my licensing portfolio is available upon request.

So… what exactly is UX?

UX, or user experience, is essentially designing with the people who actually use something in mind.

Take the humble sanitary disposal box in a women’s restroom. You know the one. It’s mounted just out of reach, requiring you to perform some strange combination of bending and contorting yourself to dispose of sanitary waste.

The box technically works; you can put something in it. But was it designed around the person actually using it? Probably not.

That is the essence of UX. Good design isn’t simply about whether something functions. It’s about whether or not it works for the humans it’s meant to serve.

That’s the thinking I bring to my creative work when I’m building a website, developing a visual identity, or creating and illustration system. I care more about more than making something look good, I want the finished work to be mindful, memorable, and full of character.

A cartoon chicken sitting on a toilet in a bathroom. The chicken has a stern expression and is facing to the right. There is a sign on the door that says 'Do Not Flush' with a crossed-out toilet symbol. The bathroom walls are painted a light green, and there is a trash can and a closed cabinet door visible.
